Lesson planning: Bloom and Costa

My approach to teaching involves engages learners in more than informal ways. I am not concerned merely with transmitting data at the understanding level. Virtually always I am aiming for students to move toward deeper personal engagement with the material, and for seeing them apply the ideas to their lives. For this reason, Bloom’s taxonomy and Costa’s levels of questioning are really valuable tools for me in designing a specific lesson.  The tool selected will help me improve my instruction by giving me a useful, concise point of reference that will assist me in working intentionally and effectively toward teaching with the intention of foster the learner’s higher level of knowledge.
