Lesson planning: Multiple intelligences

I chose multiple intelligences because I believe that most teaching in my field (religious studies, ethics) historically has been aimed almost exclusively at the learner’s verbal-linguistic intelligence. Material is presented usually by lecture. Students listen, take notes, read books, and write papers. This neglects the other valuable ways that people can learn about the world. The subject matter itself which includes the rich symbolic world of religion and the complex interpersonal world of ethics suggests that other intelligences should not be overlooked. The two charts selected suggest how a lesson topic can be engaged from the angle of diverse intelligences. The chart depicting both teacher and learner-centred approaches to the intelligences will be a good practical tool.
